In this updated Lelo Hugo review, you will find out if this powerful remote control prostate massager is still worth the hype and your money. I’ve had it for 2+ years now and will tell you all about it.
Right out of the box, the Lelo Hugo knocked me out! This sleek and stylish prostate massager did everything I could want, except clapping cheeks.
But really, isn’t that what hands are for?
But hold on, I’m jumping ahead. Here’s how I’d describe the Lelo Hugo:
I’d say it’s pretty good.
But what makes it stand out? Let’s strap right in for this Lelo Hugo review.
Hugo has two vibrating motors that create some strong and intense vibrations. It’s a powerhouse that isn’t very loud, plus it’s made from soft, velvety body-safe silicone material. Its remote control is powered by SenseMotion tech that has some interesting options for both solo and couples play.
The Not So Good
It might be pricey or too intense for new users. Experienced users might find it not deep enough. In addition, it can slip off with sudden movements or when not positioned right, so it’s not ideal for public play.
Lelo Hugo is for you if:
- You need stronger vibrations to help you reach orgasm
- You and your partner are looking for a couples’ sex toy
- You have ever wanted a high-quality toy for discreet use
Lelo Hugo might not be for you if:
- You are new to prostate massagers or are sensitive to strong vibrations
- You have a budget in mind and don’t want to spend too much

My First Impressions of Lelo Hugo
If you’ve ever bought Lelo toys, then you know what to expect. It showed up at my door in a sleek box with a small plastic window showing the toy inside.
But what about the box?
The box is a nice dark color that doesn’t draw attention to itself. So you can take your time opening it up. It also has a very clean top-shelf look that just screams “PREMIUM.”
It’s the diva of sex toys.
If you’re keeping the box, make sure you put the plastic window against a wall. You don’t want to be too obvious, right?
So, what’s inside?
Once I opened it, I found:
- The Lelo Hugo prostate massager
- The wireless remote control
- A satin storage pouch
- USB charging cord
- A small container of water-based lube
- A registration card (1-year warranty and 10-year quality guarantee)
- 2 AAA batteries for the remote
- A key for the remote battery compartment
QUICK NOTE: Don’t ever buy from unauthorized sellers. I heard that some got their Lelo toys without the registration card. Without this, you won’t enjoy Lelo’s warranty and quality guarantee. I got mine from Lelo direct, so I consider this the official package.
Hugo Tech Specs
Let’s take a look at the specs and see what the Hugo is all about.
I like that it has a standby time of 90 days. I hate taking the time to charge a toy and recharge it because I couldn’t use it within a few days. Especially since the charging time is about equal with the use time.
The noise level, is about the same as a conversation at home.
That means that it probably won’t wake anyone up if you use it behind closed doors. Just don’t try and get away with using this at the job or in a fancy restaurant.
Lastly, the silicone is non-porous. This means it won’t absorb fluids, making it easy to fully sterilize after each use. In other words, as long as you keep it clean, you shouldn’t have to worry about any health issues.
The Look and Feel: Is “Luxury” Worth It?
We mentioned earlier that this is a luxury product. So you pay more than other prostate massagers. I call this a luxury product because it has a look AND feel that reminds me of top-shelf bourbon.
Here’s what I mean.
The Lelo Hugo is a designer’s toy. Its silicone material looks and feels smooth. The shiny gold plastic with the Lelo insignia adds to the toy’s stylish design. I didn’t feel any seams between the silicone and the gold finish.
You can see more of that designer feel in the color options available. Most toys only give you one choice, but the Hugo has three options: Black, Deep Rose, or Ocean Blue.
The shape of the toy falls somewhere between the letters C and L. The tip is bulbous and on the larger side, which can intimidate newer users.
The remote control, is the same color as your prostate massager.
It has a sleek shape and fits comfortably in the palm of my hand. Instead of a screen, you get a simple set of buttons that’s easy to figure out and operate.
If you have larger fingers, don’t worry, because the buttons are nice and big.
Size of the Hugo
Hugo’s insertable length is 3.4 inches, and its max width is 1.28 inches, which is on the smaller side of prostate plugs.
The prostate is only about 2 to 3 inches inside the rectum, so the Lelo Hugo is large enough to reach your prostate. But it won’t give you a full feeling or put too much pressure on it.
Most of the stimulation comes from the strong vibrations – despite the size, this massager really packs a punch.
The size of the Hugo makes it perfect for prostate play newbies since smaller toys are less intimidating and less likely to cause discomfort.
However, if you already have some experience and prefer deeper penetration or more pressure on your prostate, this toy might not cover all your bases.
In that case, you might want to look at Lelo Loki or Loki Wave.
Can The Hugo Give You A Prostate Orgasm?
The toy itself is made of smooth silicone that has a nice and sturdy feel to it. But it wasn’t too rough sitting in my hand.
Because it’s so smooth, it felt nice to rub lubricant over the insertion tip. And when it’s slick and lubed up, it looks moist without looking soggy or ‘gunky.’
Then you put it in, and that’s a whole other experience.
The Lelo Hugo has twin motors that vibrate the prostate and the perineum. The vibrations were really strong, even in the lower settings, which does a great job of enhancing the experience.
In fact, it finished me off quickly during my FIRST time using it. Then, of course, I got better used to it over the past year, but it’s still one of the most successful toys around.
Lelo does advertise that it enhances orgasms for longer than normal. Some users agree, but I never had much luck with it. I never last when I hit the right settings for me.
If strong vibrations knock you out, then you might consider more mellow toys.
We’d been talking a lot about why I liked the Lelo Hugo. But we didn’t get around to talking about specifics. So let’s stop beating around the butt and get right to it.
Remote Control with SenseMotion
The FIRST MODE works based on how you hold on to the remote.
When the remote is held at a horizontal level, then it’s at its lowest settings. Then the power increases as you raise it to a vertical position.
This mode also makes the remote vibrate at the same time as the toy.
Not only is it two vibes for the price of one, but it opens up some fun couples play possibilities. Imagine the possibility of shared vibes during mutual masturbation, especially for hetero couples.
The SECOND MODE changes the intensity by shaking the remote. Fun at first, but your arm will get tired after a while, so I don’t recommend it.
You might be wondering why this matters.
If you don’t like dealing with buttons or checking which side is up, you can control it with simple hand motions.
It also provides a real sexy visual for couples’ play. As your partner lifts the toy, you can feel the vibrations strengthen, and that’s huge!
The Hugo has two motors: one in the tip and one in the base. These motors control the vibrations inside the prostate and along the perineum.
Not only do two motors mean stronger vibrations, but it lets the toy provide varied motion patterns to keep things spicy.
6 Pre-Programmed Vibration Modes
The Lelo Hugo has both built-in patterns and customizable patterns with the SenseMotion remote control.
You can cycle through the patterns by pressing the center button on the remote control or the button on the toy itself. Also, you can adjust the intensity on all of them.
There are a whopping 12 power levels, from very mellow to extra strong and penetrative vibrations.
There are plenty of preprogrammed patterns to explore while playing as well. You can select from:
- A constant power level
- Longer bursts of vibrations
- Shorter bursts of vibrations
- A slow acceleration to the maximum level
- An acceleration up to the maximum level back down again
- Random vibration
The most interesting option is the 6th pattern.
The toy randomly chooses different intensities, each lasting for about a second before changing. It’s a great choice if you want to let yourself be surprised by the next pleasure wave.
How to Use Lelo Hugo
My Hugo came with batteries for the remote control. It’s easy enough to use the key to pop open the back and plug in the batteries.
But for the toy itself, you should charge it at least TWO HOURS before use.
Thankfully, you can charge it on any PC or USB port. So leave it plugged in at home while you work or in your car if you have a USB plug or converter.
A full charge will give you two hours of use.
When you’re ready to play, apply lube to the insertion end. The Hugo comes with a small amount of water-based lube, which I found works best. But you can use your favorite if you have one you trust.
Then insert the toy until it’s comfortable and tightly fit. Play with the controller settings until you find the right setting for you. Then just lay back and enjoy.
I got the best vibes when I lay on my back with my legs flat. The toy pushes in a little deeper and hits the perfect spot. This is extra fun if you let your partner control the vibrations.
My Experience With Lelo Hugo
The Lelo Hugo has always been great for me. Once I put it in, I lay back and let the vibrations work their magic.
When I’m on my own, I like to play with the SenseMotion controls to vary the intensity. But, of course, I already have it set to my favorite vibration mode. So, I just make it go hard and soft until I’m well over the edge.
I thought about taking this toy out for public play since the max noise level is just soft enough for busy city living. BUT its thin neck makes it a pain to keep inside while you’re out and about.
But the best time with the Hugo is when my partner and I play around.
Make sure they stay in sight so you can see how they’re holding the remote. You can feel the difference as they tilt the remote into a vertical position, thanks to the SenseMotion tech.
And there’s just something special about leaving your play in someone else’s hands.
Cleaning & Storing Hugo
When Lelo says that this toy is waterproof, they mean it can stay submerged for at least half an hour with no problems.
This means cleaning it is a snap. All you have to do is give it a good wash in warm soapy water and dry it off with a napkin.
Quick Note: The Hugo does have plug-in charging. So, there’s a small part that may not look seamless. It’s covered with a cap, but some users get worried about water getting into the plug. I’ve never had that problem, but it’s something to think about.
I suppose you could air dry it, but I have a bad habit of forgetting to hide my toys if I don’t deal with it right then and there. So to each their own.
After cleaning up and drying the toy, put it away in Lelo’s satin pouch.
The package is small enough to hide in your bedside drawer or at the bottom of your luggage if you’re out on a business trip.
Price, Where To Buy
I got my Hugo from Lelo direct. But some users prefer to get their toys from authorized sex toy shops. Of course, it’s up to you where you go, but here’s what you can expect.
- $219 – Shop from Lelo
The Lelo website goes into some more detail about the toy and has a sleek design. You can also check out an incredible video promising about intense male orgasms. The asking price is pre-shipping.
- $219.99 – Shop from Lovehoney
The LoveHoney website is no-nonsense. You can get clearer tech and spec information and reviews to help you shop. This is the pre-shipping price.
What Do Other People Think About It?
As a first toy, this is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to explore my prostate with vibrations, where I could sit and use it.
I watched porn without any vibrations for about 20 min and then turned the sucker on. I was almost immediately trembling, feeling incredible, and feeling waves of pleasure for what felt like a half-hour. I definitely didn’t orgasm, but I had quite a bit of precum leakage, and it just felt amazing.
The main criticisms against the Hugo are its price and that it’s not a great choice for newbies. If you are worried about either of these things, then these are some other options you can explore.
- Nexus Revo Stealth — It’s way easier to use for newbies. It doesn’t have the same power or control, but it does have a rotating head that does the work for you.
- Lovense Edge 2 — If you find Hugo uncomfortable, then you might have unique anatomy. No problem, because this toy has an adjustable head that might fit you better. It’s also got a great remote app for some neat interactive capabilities.
- WeVibe Vector — This toy is smaller with decent vibrations. So, it’s better for beginners. You could also have some fun with the wireless control and the We-Connect app.
The Lelo Hugo is a top-shelf luxury experience that’s great if you’re into prostate massagers. It’s got tons of style and substance. But if you need a calmer experience or shop on a budget, you might want to look elsewhere.
