In the past, multimedia empires set the cultural standards for human beauty, desire, and the “acceptable” presentation of the human form in TV and magazines.

Now, anyone who wants to can display themselves to the world without clawing their way through a web of sleazy agents and producers. So instead of wishing they looked like Marilyn Monroe, millions of people are discovering that their individual bodies, styles, and actions are just as lovely – if not more so.

The most innovative and lucrative platform for this phenomenon is OnlyFans. It allows “content creators” to upload adult or non-adult (mostly adult) pictures, videos, or other art forms to their pages on its website.

Other users, “subscribers,” pay money for the content they want to see – and they pay millions. Our research dives into the data on how many people use OnlyFans, how much money its content creators make, who the top earners are, and more.

Here are some highlights from our research:

  • Over 300 OnlyFans content creators earn $1 million per year or more.
  • Since its inception in 2016, OnlyFans has paid over $3.2 billion to its content creators.
  • 98% of all content on OnlyFans is adult content.
  • Nearly half of all OnlyFans users (45%) are Americans.
  • Almost half (47%) of OnlyFans creators have a second job at an office or another physical location.
  • 6 out of the 10 highest-paid OnlyFans stars are women of color.

Contrary to popular belief, the most popular content on OnlyFans is non-adult videos of middle-aged Americans making and decorating their own homemade pottery.

No, we’re just kidding. The most popular content is overwhelmingly adult. Here’s a look at the data:

Most Popular OnlyFans Content Creators

Heavy lies the crown – especially when it’s the only thing you’re wearing. As with any industry, a few titans make it to the top. However, no judges, academies, focus groups, agents, or producers put them at the top.

These influencers earned their popularity in what is perhaps one of the most democratic beauty contests ever conceived: individual user likes.

The 10 most popular content creators include cosplayers, fitness buffs, wives, mothers, and women with extravagant piercings and tattoos – each appreciated by fans for their physical features, fan interactions, and unique personalities as some of the world’s most objectively beautiful people:

What’s It Like Being a Content Creator?

How does it feel to have dozens of people paying for your content? How do you engage with them, keep them happy, and keep them paying?

No two content creators are the same, and that’s what makes OnlyFans such a unique experience for fans and creators alike.

Here’s a look at what it’s like to run an OnlyFans account:

  • Friendly responses to messages are critical; one creator says about 40% of her income is from private tips.
  • Creators often post one photo, then set a tip price (e.g., $5) for the remainder of the set. One content creator says that aside from nude pictures, she also posts recipes, art, sensual erotic dance videos, spiritual transmissions, and more.
  • OnlyFans accounts have caused several issues for some creators, including:
    • Some religious creators have faced backlash from their communities that can endanger their friends, family, or careers.
    • The volume of private messages can get so high that some creators pay management firms to ghostwrite messages for them.
    • A few creators have sued OnlyFans management companies, and one alleged that the firm edited out her underwear in photos.

How Much Money Do Content Creators Make?

Most of the money that comes through the site goes straight to the content creators, but exactly how much money varies from person to person.

Creators can make as little as nothing (in extreme cases) or as much as $20 million per month (also in very, very extreme cases).

Here’s a look at how the money works:

Infographic showing that content creators earn about $151 per month

Since its inception, OnlyFans has paid over $3.2 billion to its content creators.

OnlyFans users pay a monthly or annual fee to unlock content from creators. They also pay for direct messaging, either per message or at a flat rate.

  • 80% of this revenue goes to the creator, while 20% goes to OnlyFans to cover its operating costs.

OnlyFans has a minimum subscription price of $4.99 per month and a maximum of $49.99 per month. Creators can also charge, at a minimum, $5 for tips or paid private messages.

The average OnlyFans subscription fee is about $7.20.

The average content creator has 21 subscribers.

On average, content creators earn about $151 per month.

One analyst estimates that the bottom 50% of OnlyFans content creators take home as little as $136 per month after commission.

How Much Do the Top OnlyFans Creators Make?

Being the most popular creator on OnlyFans doesn’t necessarily mean you’re making the most money.

In fact, none of the most popular content creators rank in the top 10 of the site’s highest earners. Many of the top moneymakers are celebrities with varying degrees of fame, but not all of them.

This group represents universal standards of beauty, desire, and personal appreciation – and they’ve got the dollars to prove it. Their combined earnings make up an enormous portion of the site’s monthly revenue:

Chart showing the monthly earnings and subscription fees of the top 10 OnlyFans creators. Blac Chyna leads with $20 million and a $19.99/month subscription fee, followed by Bella Thorne with $11 million and no subscription fee. Other top earners include Cardi B ($9.34 million, $4.99/month), Tyga ($7.69 million, $20/month), Mia Khalifa ($6.42 million, $12.99/month), Erica Mena ($4.49 million, $25.99/month), Gem101 ($2.3 million, $30/month), Pia Mia ($2.22 million, $10/month), Safaree Samuels ($1.91 million, $15/month), and MilaMondell ($1.5 million, $20/month).

One analyst estimates that the top 1% of OnlyFans content creators make 33% of all monthly revenue, and the top 10% of creators make 73% of all monthly revenue.

Over 300 OnlyFans content creators earn at least $1 million per year.

About 16,000 content creators earn at least $50,000 per year.

We already covered the most popular creators, but they don’t necessarily make the most money. Here’s a list of OnlyFans’ Top 10 earners, their monthly earnings, and their subscription fees.

Conclusion

OnlyFans allows anyone to create, model, and sell their own adult content, which has radically redefined the way that we value ourselves and our beauty as humans. OnlyFans is worth billions of dollars and continues to grow.

For centuries, the human form was a regulated commodity pitched to us by the executives that made movies, TV, magazines, and even pornography. Now, people of all backgrounds are realizing that others value their appearances, behaviors, sexual acts, and even verbal interactions.

In contrast to pornography, content on OnlyFans is more personal for both the user and the creator. This can open up creators to more direct positivity and/or toxicity. Some people find the experience empowering, some despise it, and others fall somewhere in between.

Whether a creator makes millions of dollars or just an extra hundred a month, it’s a profound and fascinating situation to know that someone is willing to pay to see you do things. From self-made porn to cosplay, to simple nudes, and every kink in between – people are creating an economy out of their bodies and behaviors.

It’s simultaneously one of the most natural ways to exchange value and one of the strangest oddities of the digital age. However, it’s important to remember that the value of people, sex, and performance doesn’t come from money – money’s only a product of it.
